god save mcqueen.

13 September 2009

I never considered myself an Alexander McQueen girl.

Nor would I ever, for that matter. Too prissy, perhaps, or arguably a wimp when faced with the (literally) dead-set eyes of his infamous skulls. Yet somehow, in the midst of my anti-skulls platform during the raging skulls trend back in the day, I have always had my heart set on owning the classic, Alexander McQueen scarf.

Alexander McQueen Scarves

{black & ivory silk chiffon scarf, $260 // rose wool-blend scarf, $455}

Note that I stress  c l a s s i c  – I am forever fond of pieces deemed classic (in my book, of course). By classic they must meet the following requirements: iconic, versatile, and ageless. I do believe Mr. Mcqueen’s iconic skull-print scarves are exactly that and no less, for its ability to transform any ensemble from simply blah to dark, gothic, and edgy is undeniable.

Whereas I’m not too fond of Mcqueen’s ready-to-wear lines, his shoes truly are worthy of shoe pornography status.

Alexander McQueen Shoes

Feast your eyes out, darlings. The black Swarovski encrusted pumps? A sophisticated silhouette turned punk-rock; it is quite strange how black crystals instantly change the entire look of an item (or shoe, in this case) – part unusual, part sophisticated, part rock-chic. Le sigh.

bisous xx

The studded booties and the Swarovski pumps? I am slowly dying for them. And all in black of course, which is THE iconic, timeless and versatile colour.
Darling, I am sorry I didn’t comment or blog for a few weeks, as I was on holidays with my family on the French Riviera, eating croissants everyday 😉 But I’m now back to London, ready for LFW, and wearing my new Chloé coat with slouched heeled boots – but no tights so I can at least show my suntan a little! – to face the ever-too-soon autumn! Verdict, dear Stylista?
    With love, Alizé x

      @Alize: E x a c t l y . It’s quite alright, all is forgiven of course! I can only say that I am just a little jealous – un peu! (;

  2. 13 September 2009 5:42 pm

I have been swooning over the black scarf for ages, I would agree it is indeed becoming quite the iconic piece. The crystal pumps are to die for! xx ambiquitous

  3. 13 September 2009 5:53 pm

Looove the scarf! I would really love to afford it:D Oh, and love the title for this:)

  4. 13 September 2009 5:58 pm

McQueen has so many beautiful classic pieces – really, I think some of his items are going to be the ones our generation pass on to our grandchildren! Top of my wishlist from him is this clutch:

and his feathered stilettos come a close second!

@Charlotte Lucy: Thank you for stopping by darling! (: I do hope you get that fab clutch! (: xx

  5. 13 September 2009 7:01 pm

I’m not a fan of skulls either, but something about the flowy nature of McQueen’s scarves is so appealing! 🙂

  6. 13 September 2009 7:37 pm

Oooh, talk about shoe porn! Absolute perfectionnnn =)
And I too have always loved those scarves – though I do love McQueen… I think his perspective is always so lovely.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend, dear!

  7. 13 September 2009 7:50 pm

His stuff isn’t my style at all, but I love the booties w/ skull zipper! Saw on another blog too.

  8. 13 September 2009 8:42 pm

i feel like i struggle with studs and/or skulls and things of the like, mostly because i feel like no matter how i style them, i come off like i’m trying terribly hard to be edgy but the faithful bootie has just the right amounts of edginess and simplicity. too bad the price is beyond my means to say the least.

    • 13 September 2009 8:43 pm

@roxanne: But my theory is: if you don’t think too hard about it and just wear it as you would wear anything, it wouldn’t look contrived at all (:

  9. 13 September 2009 9:13 pm

I tried on the black skull zipper McQueen bootie a few months ago… it made me melt

Shoe porn! I love the peep toe pumps, they could be worn with a casual outfit or something a bit more elegant and still look great.

The skull scarf was worn by pretty much everyone but it’s still amazing! Beautiful piece.

    xx,
    Ale.

  11. 13 September 2009 11:44 pm

Hmm I’m still not a fan of anything with skulls on it, it just seems too creepy! I do luuurrve those shoes though! They are perfection.

  12. 14 September 2009 1:17 am

I think those shoes are for looking/feasting my eyes on and not for walking. Heels those high are more scary than skulls. 😀

[I finally made an image-link for your fab blog. Will email you now.]

    • 14 September 2009 1:18 am

@Bored & Crafty: Hahahaha this is why I love you (: & I’m so excited!! I’m checking the email now (:

  13. 14 September 2009 1:26 am

i say, treat your gorgeous self to at least one of the scarves- more affordable than the heels, i should say. you’re worth it, darling!! (and yes, i’m trying to justify myself getting one as well, oh so devious! hehe)

    bisous

    • 14 September 2009 1:27 am

@Kara: You are quite convincing in your argument (alas, my pitiful high school status, a.k.a. jobless begs to differ) but I will buy one with my first (many!) paychecks! (; I say, you definitely should buy one yourself, darling! (: xx

  14. 14 September 2009 1:33 am

    love it all.
the skull mcqueen and the lv leopard are the two most ionic most wished scarves i’ve ever seen.
mcqueen is a genius. i tried on one of his dresses and they are like machinery, even the simplest looking piece has so much corsetry inside that makes your body look amazing.

    • 14 September 2009 1:34 am

@cindy: The Louis Vuitton leopard is also on my list – quite predictable, but they are iconic, nonetheless. I’m not a huge follower of his work, but he truly is one of those creative geniuses!

  15. 14 September 2009 3:50 am

i like the scull scarves 😉

  16. 14 September 2009 5:22 am

Great shoe porn esp love those studded buckle booties from AW. 🙂

    XoXo

    • 14 September 2009 6:58 am

@janettayalor: They do seem to be a reminiscent of Alexander Wang, no? (: But they are Alexander McQueen!

  17. 14 September 2009 10:21 am

Hello doll, I was never too enthused with A McQueen either, but I DO love the accessories. The shoes & the bags, so yummy! I’ll take a pair of the studded buckle bootie, please 😉

Hey La C. Great scarf and shoes. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Take care. Have a fantastic week ahead. Cheers!

  20. 14 September 2009 11:29 am

What’s better than bling on your hands? Well, bling on your shoes, of course. J’adore those Swarovski encrusted pumps! 🙂

  21. 14 September 2009 11:39 am

    You do want my death.
Plus I AM a McQueen girl…… his visionary vision of fashion is my thing, is being from Central Saint Martens as well….
As much as I despise money, I wish I have some to buy these items !!!

    • 14 September 2009 11:40 am

@Cafe Fashionista: Of course (; xx

      @rossvelvet: I should never wish such a thing upon you (; Same same same! Ah, money. The cause of all problems. But at least it quenches temptation in our case? (;

  22. 14 September 2009 11:46 am

God, I love the leather jacket-ish shoe.

  23. 14 September 2009 1:48 pm

mcqueen, mcqueen, i dont know what to say, sometimes i LOVE him sometimes i dont. i was really disappointed with the quality of his novak bags the 1st time i saw one. i think his clothes are really the stand out pieces. his does phenomenal dresses. his suits the construction is excellent, a note to his saville row training.

the scarves, unfortunately all i think of his the little girl LA starlets. it’s a shame, they ruin everything.

    • 14 September 2009 1:49 pm

@Prêt-à-Porter P: Definitely! That’s the one thing about these scarves ): I knew I always liked them, but after seeing them nearly EVERYWHERE on Hollywood’s starlets, I was put off! But I’ve [tried to] come to overlook it, as I am on the East Coast (; xx

  24. 14 September 2009 2:40 pm

While I think the pink one is gorgeous, I think the McQueen scarves would be closer to the bottom of my “classic” list. Mostly because I’m not really a skulls girl anyway. Though I haven’t been too exposed them until recently!

  25. 14 September 2009 3:56 pm

    hey there!

I’m a big fan of AMQ, always have been. I can’t stand the skull trend though, I just think it’s tacky. Love the “porn” shoes. It’s always a good idea to have a couple of pairs of seriously sexy shoes in your collection.

    • 14 September 2009 11:52 pm

@diane: I couldn’t either; thank goodness it’s (at least around here) over and done with! Sexy shoes are always a must (:

  29. 15 September 2009 1:24 am

Oh gawd!! These shoes are indeed at eyegasm levels. I knew these would show up sooner or later..hahaha [I’m on the Mcqueen boat >;D]

It’s been a while! But I’ll be..perusing through what I have missed through your blogs…slowly..

I’m actually a true McQueen girl and I love his designs, including his RTW line… if you go beyond his extravagant runway shows, few other designers have such talent for impeccable tailoring as he does (let’s not forget that he did train at Savile Row) and his giant houndstooth items are already being copied all over the place. The skull items, including scarves are a definite classic… if you’re the type of girl who likes the rock look. When worn with anything else (i.e. if it’s not ‘you’) it might look a bit contrived, which is why I understand why some girls think the skulls look isn’t for them. But this look is timeless in the same way Chanel is. It’s just not for everyone (i.e. I’d look seriously out of place if I wore Hermes).

    • 15 September 2009 9:03 am

@hauteworld: Darling, you are indeed a true Mcqueen girl (: ♥ But I’m not so sure if I agree entirely on your last statements – true, but I think it’s moreso how you carry yourself when you wear it. People can be flexible and versatile; it’s just whether or not you feel comfortable in it!

  32. 15 September 2009 10:04 am

    beautyful shoes

  45. 17 September 2009 8:44 am
