giveaway | $100 giftcard to

19 June 2010

I haven’t blogged in exactly a week.

It’s not to say I haven’t tried; I have multiple drafts saved – started, and left unfinished – all due to a lack of inspiration. Being sickly hardly helps either. But I’m itching to publish something; I owe all you 322 (I’m absolutely flabbergasted!) followers some common decency at the least. Posting regularly must will resume, but before that ensues, I leave you all with a little thank-you-for-being-so-patient-with-me surprise…

I’ve been a massive fan of alice + olivia for as long as I can remember; it was their dresses that were love at first sight. Every design embodies the young, modern woman of today: girly, sophisticated, edgy, sexy. It’s cute, it’s quirky. But it’s also incredibly chic and sassy without becoming cliché. Le sigh. If only a girl could use her credit card[s] à la Rebecca Bloomwood (Confessions of a Shopaholic, darlings! You better have seen the film…) sans the financial repercussions and wear cocktail dresses all the time…

Lucky you, though! There’s a sale on loads of lovely alice + olivia, maintenant, on Go now, I implore you, before the stock clears or they run out of your size whilst I window-shop, make mental wish lists, and live vicariously through your purchases. (It’s pathetic, I know.)

Should you be in my situation (hellooo, loader of-the-shopping-cart-but-never-hitting-check-out-now Anonymous!), or are simply in the mood to take a chance with dear old Fortune, listen (or read, rather), carefully! I’ve partnered with one of my favorite online boutiques (!),, for a fantastic,  international giveaway. One of you darling readers will win a $100 giftcard to spend as you will – alice + olivia, here I come! – good towards anything from Shopbop.

ze rules.

Make sure yah follow them:

{+} Peruse and tell me your favorite alice + olivia piece and why in the comments below. Write a love letter to that wish list item, tell me where you’ll wear it, link it in the comments section. We are all entitled to our dreams!

{+} Be sure to leave a functioning e-mail address!

{+} Follow La Couturier via Bloglovin’. Okay. Just kidding. This isn’t really a required part of the giveaway rules, but it would be nice if you did take the time to follow! Only if you want to, though. I’m no dictatorial blogger!

{+} Giveaway ends Sunday, June 30th. That’s one full week before I pick the winner randomly. Hop to it, mes chéries!

One. Hundred. Dollars. towards anything from – I’m only drooling slightly from the prospects of what I could buy with this gift card, but I shall not be selfish! This is a thank you to anyone who’s read this humble little blog of mine, from the one-timers to those of you who have followed me since the beginning. I’m not one who’s eloquent with words of sentimentality, so I’m hoping the money will do the talking (it usually does, anyway).

I absolutely adore the Debbie Denim Military Jacket, it’s perfectly “navy chic.” Which is what I call my own style when trying to sound fashionable. It “glamourously” translates to only every wearing blue, gray, and white.
I’d wear this jacket with a loose white top and a heap of long, gold necklaces, and then go have a picnis under a sweeping willow while watching sunlight get caught in the ripples of a lake. Eating cupcakes, of course.

Love alice +olivia!!! Hope the inspiration is back! I hate when that happens that you start one post after the other one but nothing at the end….. Hope you have a fabulous week full of inspiration!

I love the Michaela Leather Jacket — especially with that sheer blouse it’s styled with.

  7. 20 June 2010 8:45 am

Hands down, the Butterfly Shorts ( are my absolute favorite.

Living in the South, it gets uber hot down here but it’s so hard to find shorts that I’d be willing to wear out in public! These are both cute AND sophisticated–a rare gem in the shorts-shopping world, believe me!

I love the little flirty, flouncy cut that makes them look more dressed up than your ordinary pair and the khaki color that means they’ll match everything, and be ready for a walk to the grocery store or a date night with my dear husband! Best pair of shorts I’ve seen all season!!

I am completely obsessed with the Casey Cluster Sequin Dress in navy. (And look, my size is the only one left! It’s a sign! It’s meant to be!) I would wear it for a fun night out with the girls, à la Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.

Can’t wait to hear who wins! hannahorenstein (at) yahoo (dot) com

The Eon Blazer with Sheer Panel ( is quite a stunning piece. The detailing at the back is gorgeous, yet its perfectly versatile for everyday and has just the right amount of slouch. I would wear it over a sheer, loose white button-down with a colorful (perhaps sequined? mmm) bodycon miniskirt and a killer pair of platforms.

Thanks for such a fabulous giveaway! The winner will be a lucky girl indeed. 🙂

The Fallon drop waist dress: everything that is feminine and beautiful in one piece. The rather conservative front is balanced by an exaggerated racerback, exposing skin in a way that is just a little scandalous and yet quite tasteful. It exemplifies what the Alice + Olivia designers are masters in achieving: accentuating femininity without being overtly sexy. Subtle beauty and inadvertent allure are represented by the Fallon. A dress like this, worn with the right accessories, is simultaneously whimsical and sexy. It is the dress of a modern Venus–its wearer becomes statuesque and regal upon donning the frock.

I feel as if every girl wearing this dress is just asking to be fallen in love with. The dress of a muse, the dress of a young and mysterious woman who is too afraid to be blatantly alluring in her outfit choices, but is entirely secure in the demure and diaphanous sexiness of the Fallon dress. Or perhaps the girl who is unaware of her own beauty would choose this dress. It is not a come-hither gown, but rather it is a dress that inspires its wearer and those observing her.

I would wear it with a nude pump, perhaps a strappy sandal, to an outdoor dinner party. I would take my shoes off, to avoid heels being ruined by the grass. I imagine sitting beneath trees, lit by twinkling lights, breathing in air heavy with the unmistakable yet indescribable smells of summer. A mix of freshly mown grass, chlorine, citrus trees laden with fruit, perfume that is made stronger by the heat, and a certain je ne sais quoi that makes summer, summer.

The people at this party speak in hushed tones–they are looking at the sky, they are sitting with their feet in the pool, they are blissful. To them, and to me in this dress, summer becomes more than just an interminable waiting room; summer becomes something worth living completely, alive and involved in every moment.

its sexy, but girly , mature , but just a bit naughty *
The perfect lil’ ensemble i see myself in, strolling along in central park with an ice cream cone{{cherry on top of course}} stacked diamond bracelets dripping off of my arm , and some vintage dior sunglasses perched on my head .
ahhhh , one of my greatest day dreams!

in reality i would throw it on, to go hang out with my girlys for day with a black fringe crossbody bag and some shiny ballet flats, easy, and realistic . But the dream was far better, no ?

    La Couturier,
You are a girl after my own heart! I adore Alice + Olivia too, so you must know that picking one favorite piece is a considerable feat. I have une affaire de cœur with the Gold Sequin Miniskirt. I just love the subtle pattern the sequins make. I would let this shimmery piece be the star of my outfit and pair it with a classic shirt and a fitted blazer, along with a statement necklace that doesn’t draw too much attention away from this absolutely darling skirt. What I love the most about this pairing is that you can wear it day to night, perfect for a busy work day followed by a night out with my girls!

Oh my gosh! My dream giveaway! I am obsessed with shopbop! And have a wishlist the size of australia.

To my dear Samantha Sequin Stripe Tee ( ),
I don’t really know how to put this into words, because I am not sure if you even know who I am? I have seen you around, almost every day, for quite a while now. I have watched you from afar, wondered, dreamed, imagined what it would be like to have you in my life. There is this void that only you can fill, an empty coat hanger waiting patiently in my closet for you to one day sit on. Every time I hear the words “silk chiffon” and “sequins” I pretty much lose my breathe. I can see you now, with me, paired with jeans, with skirts, heels and flats. In the city, at a restaurant, traveling the world with me. Would you like to be in my life? Please? I think I love you.

    Yours truly,

It’s hard to find a really good LBD. Alice + Oliva has put a new obsession within a mouse click. From the front it looks short, tight, but not the least bit trashy. Then you turn around and see your favorite part, the back that dips down low to meet the zipper. Three straps placed in the middle of the open back allow for some separation from other scoop back dresses.

It can be transformed to be the sexy little dress we all need in our closets. Paired with messy, disheveled curls, booties, and a ‘ I’m hotter than you attitude’. Or it can be classy and modelesque with strappy heels or pumps and a tight controlled ponytail. Being able to be styled into a range of looks is always a key part in picking out clothing, and Alice + Oliva has made this dress to fit in perfectly with all looks. This is a dress that can never look too dressed up, or too risqué. It would look at home on the streets of New York at night, or at your next dressed up event.

This dress is practically begging me to order it, so this contest is a dream come true. Living in the middle of nowhere leaves me few places to get my fashion fixes. I’m pleased to say that La Couturier and Shopbop has helped me remain classy, fabulous, and sane.

Tabitha Fitted Tubular Dress, you are beautiful.

Oh Alice + Olivia Addy Tank Dress,
you have been dreadfully abandoned in the bottom of that imaginary shopping cart for far too long of a while. You may be nestled between the simple Russell Slip Dress and the casually sexy Pacey Button Down Shirt for company, but you deserve so much more. One day, I will scoop your fabulousness into my arms and we will have the most perfect day. I will smooth your flowing material over my body and pair your girlish charm with a pair of edgy (but deliciously simple) high heels. You and I will sip cocktails as the summer light starts to fade and you will merit the special glances from my loved one. You and I will frolick from the summer sun into a sultry night together. But until this day, I am sorry to say, I must let you lay as you are in that cart. I simply do not have the funds to sweep you up just yet.

Thank you LaC for this wonderful giveaway! I window (*ahem* screen) shop on shopbop daily and have yet to click the checkout button.

The Fierra Y Back tank dress in teal would hands down be my pick. To me there is nothing more sexy then keeping it simple, and nothing more benefiting then a summer dress that really flourishes that russet tan you worked so hard perfecting. I would add a pair of Pixie Dust Earrings and bronze gladiator heels, adding a unique perspective to the dress but not taking away from its effortless simplicity. I would wear this look to a night out with the girls… lets say to LOKAL restaurant on North Ave. in chicago. A trendy little restaurant where we can mix in mingle with fellow city-goers. A lovely little dress is a terrible thing to waste mes chéries. GROSSES BISES!

Dearest Addy Tank Dress, I do believe I’ve fallen for you. You bring back the nostalgia of dreams of balls and tea parties with the Queen, all grown up in a sexy package. What a temptress you are, with your exquisite silk drapery and adorably naughty pinkish-nude hue. You are divine.

I would wear you while I’m reclining on a couch in Starbucks, with a dark-colored feminine cardigan and killer ankle booties, topped off with oversized sunglasses. I’m sipping a Tall Caramel Macchiato and reading my pristine copy of Pride and Prejudice for the 256,789th time. All eyes are on me; after all, who wouldn’t stare at any girl who has you? I cross my legs and wink at that dark-haired lad at the opposite end of the store. He sends a heart-fluttering smile back. Oh, don’t be jealous – you are the Perfect Dress, and the Perfect Dress does need the Perfect Guy, no?

You add a sense of charm and mystery to even the most mundane things. If only your $368 price tag never existed, and I could snatch you away and wear you to my heart’s content.

    Love, love, love, K.

I am in love with the Maggie Strapless Dress )
It is the perfect balance of chic and sophisticated with breezy and fun. And I love the straps on the back- they show off just the right amount of tan, sexy summer skin.
I am going to Australia this summer, and this dress would definitely be worn there. I can see it worn on a boat, more casually with some flat sandals, beachy waves, and a slouchy cardigan or blazer. But it is also perfect for the evening, worn with heels, a glittery hair accessory, smokey eyes, and a soft pink nude lipstick- great for dancing the night away with the koalas and kangaroos, and some men with accents.

I have two love letters xD

    Dear Brittany Beaded Dress,
I’d wear you with a pair of purple pumps to make a good contrast with your soft tones and to make the whole outfit stands out. You’re such an feminine and elegant dress that every woman will be thrilled to have in her wardrobe. I love the simple yet modern line and the pattern that make it original and interesting. This dress is suitable for every official event. It can be worn with bright shoes/accessories if you want to stand out from the crowd or with soft pastel tones if you want to look romantic, feminine and gentle. This dress can really make you shine.

    ( )

Dear Lila Platform Sandals and Lana One Shoulder Drape Top,
I really think that you two should meet. You’ll definitely make a lovely combination. I love that the top is made from silk-chiffon – it’s one of my favourite fabrics, because it makes the garment looks so romantic. Also, I love the dark purple color and the asymmetrical design. I think the different shades of purple of the top and the sandals can look great together without making the outfit boring.
