not one, but ten {10} things.

10 August 2009

1. I hardly wear makeup, save for the occasional evening event or a ubiquitous dance performance, yet I own boxes of cosmetics. I must admit I have a ridiculous penchant for pretty packaging and lovely pots and pans of various colors. And I am currently obsessed with Lollipop26, a makeup guru on Youtube – I adore her English accent and admire her nail polish and lipstick collections!

2. Whilst on the topic of cosmetics and the likes, I do have a particular penchant for nail varnishes in light, baby pinks/peaches, lilac, taupe, murky purples, dark purples (with yellow undertones), and black-reds. These specific shades are indeed my favorite and are on constant rotation, for I do find them to look best with my skin tone.

3. I do have an obsession with three-quarter sleeved tops. They epitomize sophistication, in my personal opinion of course, and are incredibly versatile for any season.

4. I love being a girl. I do. But my one complaint is not when Aunt Flo visits, but when I encounter vulgar men who decide that catcalling and shouting rude and degrading commentary at me (about the derrière, if we must be specific), I am absolutely appalled and absolutely disgusted at how low these men can be.

5. I adore the Obamas. And yes, I would consider myself to be a supporter of the Democratic Party, if you insist on knowing my political tendencies.

6. People find it quite strange that I enjoy eating plain pasta noodles. Sans the sauce and seasoning, I do find it quite delectable and simple. Why, you ask? I have no idea.

7. My favorite coffee at the moment is Starbucks’ (surprise, surprise) Chocolate Truffle Espresso. So. So. Good. For chocoholics like myself, when a tad of sweetness and a chocolate fix is necessary, the aforementioned drink is the best of both worlds.

8. I adore Olivia Palermo’s style! I have spent countless hours poring over her TFS thread, ogling this and drooling over that.

9. Topshop has officially become my new favorite store. Period.

10. I can dance for eight (or more!) hours straight but I possess not an ounce of stamina that will allow me to run a mile. ‘Tis a sad, sad thing.

Tell me a thing or two about you. Or ten, if you so wish! (:

bisous, xx

P.S.: Forgive the lack in commenting; I will diligently get back to that as soon as I return from my petite vacation!

I also hardly wear makeup but I have a huge train case full of it, and I seriously find catcalls annoying. I’m always so tempted to go psycho bitch on those men, but I don’t explode like that so . . . it doesn’t happen.

  2. 10 August 2009 12:49 am

    the chocolate truffle!!!

  3. 10 August 2009 1:07 am

and what is this coffee?!! I haven’t heard of it and I am a Starbucks junkie…I’m going to go demand it in the morning! 🙂

  5. 10 August 2009 1:35 am

Black-reds are my favorites of the nail varnish variety. Such a vampy, glam way to show your colors! Olivia Palermo…enough said – obsessed! And Ivanka Trump, of course – the epitome of elegance! 🙂

  6. 10 August 2009 1:41 am

I also have a lot of make up and i dont even wear it so often and only little when i do. I just love everything pretty so 😀

3/4 sleeve tops ARE the ultimate in sophisitcation. No matter how casual the top, I still feel feminine in one.

Ooh! What a lovely post! Loved reading your ‘ten’ things!

  9. 10 August 2009 4:02 am

I don’t really like wearing makeup either but I do love the bronzer!! I also hate guys who makes girls uncomfortable by staring at us up and down and also for the rude commentary. I wish there were more gentlemen in this world.

Yes! Topshop is my favorite too! Now we can be shopping buddies! xxooxxo

  10. 10 August 2009 6:01 am

I loooove makeup and I rarely leave the house without something on or else I feel naked. My minimum is mascara ^^ I love light colors on the nails too, or simply blank nailpolish ^^ Sometimes when I have time I try to do a french manicure but it rarely turns out good xD

  11. 10 August 2009 6:05 am

  14. 10 August 2009 10:28 am

haha, I also have an obsession with three-quarter sleeved tops. They’re cute! Two little facts about me: I listen to heavy and death metal every once in a while & I keep watching the movie wimbledon over and over.. arg.

  15. 10 August 2009 12:22 pm

Yum that coffee sounds amazing! And no sauce w/ pasta- that is a travesty! 🙂 I loove tomato sauce, so I say, the more the merrier.

Hope you are enjoying your mini vaca!

  16. 10 August 2009 1:49 pm

Always nice to learn a little bit more about you, La C! I hear you on being able to dance for ages and not being able to run–I’m the same way.

Enjoyed to read your 10 things!!!
Starbuck´s is always a good choice. Unfortunately it´s a little bit expensive here in Germany…

    Have a wonderful enchanting week!

  20. 10 August 2009 2:53 pm

love to learn more about you…topshop is so fab, I must agree!

  21. 10 August 2009 3:35 pm

    so cute…
I am so with you on the nail polish obsession….I just love having pretty nails 🙂

I really wish Topshop would deliver to Canada, I feel to neglected 😛 joking

  22. 10 August 2009 4:04 pm

Your #4 is so right. I love being a girl, but hate vulgar men. Luckily they’re not all like that.
I hardly wear make up as well. My face feels heavier with make up, and I prefer feeling fresh faced.

My Dear! I am back home enjoying the French weather, after London rain! Thinking of you!
Well, in response to your 10 things, I agree with most, except I don’t really like pasta, nor pizza, nor fries.. I just like raw carrots (hence my little ‘lapin’ nickname!) and chocolate.. truffle coffee sounds like the most delicious thing int he world: why haven’t I encountered it yet in my local Starbucks?? Is it a ‘special US flavor’? 😉 Oh, and the best thing I had recently is the classic Home made Speculos ice-cream from my hometown’s ice-cream maker.. mmmh! (Speculos is a cinnamon-flavoured biscuit)
Glad you had a nice & super stylish trip to NYC! LOVE from the Alps. Bisous!
ps: I now have my own URL for Blog de Tendances:! 🙂

  24. 10 August 2009 5:13 pm

You’re almost like an open book by now 🙂 Loved #10, lol 🙂

  25. 10 August 2009 5:24 pm

Can you tell me what your favorite dark purples and black-reds are for nail polish?

I’m obsessed with makeup these days, almost as much as video games.
I’m starting to dream about makeup more than video games.

  26. 10 August 2009 5:42 pm

Aww cute, I enjoyed reading this! I love the Obama’s too!

  27. 10 August 2009 5:49 pm

    Great post!

    Here are my two things!:
1.I buy too much magazines. Beside me are at least 20 or so which I have accumulated throughout July alone.
    2.I am a blonde! Haha

  28. 10 August 2009 6:23 pm

I share 5, 6, 8, and 9 with you. I love the Obamas! And yes, I am a very plain jane when it comes to food. Pasta with a sprinkle of salt is all I need. I adore Olivia’s style, it’s incredibly chic! Oh my, Topshop. That needs no explanation 🙂 Ah, as for two things about me.. I am at the theatre 24//7; building sets, acting in a show, or rehearsing. Also I’m quite the Tim Burton fan. I can’t wait for his upcoming version of Alice in Wonderland.

I hope your having a fabulous time on your petite vacation! 😀

I’m one of those guys who get embarassed when my male friends make vulgar cat-calls in public. I think it’s quite annoying, not to mention rude to the girl(s).

  31. 10 August 2009 9:27 pm

oh my gosh. i love plain pasta too. how many times are we going to eat that in our future, while we’re still in college may i mention. hahaha.

  32. 10 August 2009 11:36 pm

The 3/4 sleeve is genius. Always a bombshell look, even with jeans.

  33. 10 August 2009 11:43 pm

Hehe cute list of things! I’m so with you on the plain pasta and I’ve never “met” anyone who felt the same as me! I really love eating fresh, warm, plain bread too without even butter, I just think it’s great to appreciate those simple, pure tastes.

  34. 11 August 2009 12:02 am

What a delightful, quirky and fun post – you’ve inspired me yet again and I think I’ll address your question with a post of my own this week. I’ve been feeling a bit down lately (weather has changed in my city from very sunny hot and to rainy and cold) and something like this simple list has cheered me up.

i am like you – i rarely ever wear makeup but i’m also a sucker for packaging and the dream/ideal of beauty.

  35. 11 August 2009 12:22 am

It’s always lovely to know a bit more about you C! I used to be like you with pasta, only with rice, I could eat it alone, but not anymore. Don’t know why. I don’t think I wear that much makeup but I can’t help buying it.

Writing these random things seem like the perfect idea for a new post! I hope you’re having a lovely time in your mini holidays!

  36. 11 August 2009 12:46 am

    I also enjoy plain noodles.

    Love Grace.

  37. 11 August 2009 2:25 am

omg!!!! i love u even more now cuz u like laura’s YT videos. she’s my favorite youtuber 2 ..hihihi & i think that Olivia palermo’s style is awesome… how about that!!!!! keep up the good work dear! :*

  39. 11 August 2009 10:11 am

Ah I love this. I don’t really where make up either, but I don’t have a nice cosmetic bag… (I had to get my make-up done for prom at Clinique because I really had no clue what I was going to do!) and same here with the Obamas. I’m non-partisan, but I do support the Democrats right now. After 1) the republicans allowed the people behind George Bush to bring our economy to ruins and 2) they also tried to get Sarah Palin into VP (which, if you think about it, is one bullet away from presidency! -shivers-) I could never support them at this point. Oh and of course the republican assholes in my school who are snobby and (probably) homosexual!

PS on a lighter note I adore the smell and look of coffee, but every time I try to taste it, my mouth scrunches up and I need water!

  40. 11 August 2009 10:21 am

awww i love the obamas too! especially mr obama : ) hottest president ever

    • 11 August 2009 10:22 am

donnaalba: Haha ohmygoodness we have have so much in common! I’m seriously obsessed with Laura’s videos; she’s ahh-mazing.

      S. Elisabeth: Imagine if Sarah Palin did get the vice presidency – the very thought scares me! Did you watch her speech upon resigning from her position? To put it lightly, she sounded rather dense. That would be an understatement.

Wina: Hahaha he is rather good looking, especially at his age too!

  41. 11 August 2009 10:26 am

    great post!

i hardly wear make-up either, and i love hats!

  42. 11 August 2009 1:29 pm

I love your blog…..i can’t think of another word to describe it than just plain simply…lovely. I highly highly recommend watching MichellePhan or i think she is also known as ricebunny on youtube. She has wonderful skincare, makeup, and fashion tips. Her videos are also very nicely made and great quality. ~ciao~

  43. 11 August 2009 5:56 pm

    you are so cute!
i too have been obsessed with topshop since I came back from New York, I am SO jealous they have it and Boston does not..not fair!

  44. 11 August 2009 10:14 pm

Hey La C. These were cool to read. I always enjoy reading these sorts of posts. It’s neat to find out more about each other. Hope you’re having a good week. Cheers!

  45. 11 August 2009 10:31 pm

Even though I bought a K-cup machine, I am still a slave to Starbucks.
If you can dance that long, you don’t need to run. You are burning off just as many calories with super-long dancing, and having more fun.

    • 11 August 2009 10:32 pm

au revoir: Aw, thank you! I just spent an hour last night watching all her videos – I’m officially obsessed with her! Thanks for the suggestion xx

Mary D: Ah, so true! (:

  46. 12 August 2009 12:08 am

you are so funny! i could totally dance all night but when it comes to running….yak!

  47. 12 August 2009 8:02 am

    lovely post!
I couldn’t agree more with you on the men part. So they are screaming out, whilstling or any of the sorts, but what the hell am I supposed to do?! What do they expect me to actually do! ahah
My favourite starbucks is the Chai Latte yumm.

I’m so pleased to finally hear more about you 🙂
Must say your blog is my favorite so far, absolument génial.
If you like make-up guru you should look for michellephan on youtube. She’s the #1 in make-up.
And for Topshop, they finally ship in France, but I haven’t had the pleasure to order something yet.
I’m french and if I have my share of catcalling, I have to say I was quite shocked during my first trip to N.Y.C. I hadn’t been harrassed like that since I’d wanted to try on this mini leather skirt #shudder# 😀
Besides, they could see that I was a stranger so they were quite taken aback when I told them that I could understand what they were saying despite their bad grammar. 😉

    • 14 August 2009 8:08 am

Elea: Aw thank you sooo much! Merci, darling! I will most definitely check her out; I do believe I’ve come across a video of hers before, but now I will subscribe!

Girls will never escape catcalling; it’s quite pathetic (and appalling!) that these men resort to such demeaning methods of getting our attention! And good for you! (:
