love, actually.

10 February 2009

love

I wish I remember where I found the above photograph; I had it saved in my inspiration folder for so quite some time now that I’ve forgotten! Everything about it is just so beautiful and perfect; I think if one were to search “love” in a dictionary, this would be the very definition; after all, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I can’t say that I know what love really is. I do feel love; that unconditional love for my family; that loyal love for my friends; that appreciative love for everything around me; that puppy I love in those short-lived crushes I have on handsome boys. But I don’t know it – or what it is, for that matter; of course there will always be theorists who have experimentally defined the science behind love. It’s impossible to define every kind of love, or to explain why it happens. We must simply accept it as a gift from some divine being (God, or whomever/whatever you believe in, as to not offend any one in particular!), a gift given to mankind to overcome any obstacle.

And I can’t say I’ve felt the love they portray in movies and romances. That specific love almost every girl has fantasized since her first Disney Princess’ movie at four or five years old. Is it really as beautiful as romanticists illustrate them to be? In my rather naive mind, where perfect romances could possibly exist, and where picture-perfect moments like the one captured in the photo above are simple truths that define the positives of mankind, this love of attraction between two beings is perhaps one of the most beautiful things to roam the Earth. Playful, fun, spontaneous; love that isn’t taken, but given freely. Where a kiss on forehead or rubbing noses or holding hands means more than a passionate kiss. Where a long look can cause hearts to race even if it has been the thousandth time the lovers have stared at each other.

heart5 It’s almost Valentine’s Day.

xoxo,

La C.

I leave you with “the most succinct word” as dubbed by The Guinness Book of World Records from the language of Yagán. Also known as one of the most difficult words to translate. It’s beautiful.

La C. You make love beautiful again. And you make me appreciate love for what it is. I don’t know what it is, but something about you and/or the way you write makes everything beautiful, positive, & so optimistic.

    Thank you.

i think, that is my new favorite word. thanks. i love it.
and that film, love actually, have seen for a millionth time. happy vday to you and i wish that you find love (the one in movies) really soon. 🙂 it is a wonderful feeling.

La C, this is so beautiful.
What a great reminder right before V-day! And what a perfect photo to put in your inspiration folder 🙂

  4. 10 February 2009 6:34 pm

Cute post! I love forehead, nose, cheek kisses, silly kisses – all kisses really! I can’t wait for the big V day!

  5. 10 February 2009 6:51 pm

    Hi La C,

The love it many times complicated, but good if it finds you out. The affection from this more, because it is not transformed. From a love there will be hatred many times. 😦 Superb position and I agree with you. I like that word! 🙂

    Happy V-Day!
    xoxo: Janet

I love that word & its definition. 🙂

Being in love is nice, it’s a feeling that is truly inexplicable – but so is the pain if or when it ends. I envy the love that is evident in that photo… that is the best kind, no doubt. Head over heels & crazy about each other.

    xoxo happy (almost) V-day!

Thanks for reminding me how beautiful love is, I think sometimes we take it for granted.

well, here’s my view on love..i am really down to earth when it comes to it..

i believe that love is a choice. you choose to love your boyfriend or husband. you choose to see the good that’s in hi,, over the all the bad things. the love ends when you’re just fed up of doing it.

i also believe that there are no different tipes or different levels of love. what is changes is the way you show it..the way i show love to my husband is different than the way i show my father (thank God !!)

hope it help a little bit on your quest to understand the lovin’ 😉

    p.s. totally awesome pic

Oh, that word was perfect! I think I won’t be able not to use it as a song title once, actually… I almost ordered Dujour, but realized that the shipping will be more than the actual prize of the magazine, so unfortunately I’ve had to put it on hold ’till I’m a bit more stable economically – being a student in January is tough :p And the picture is very sweet indeed, though it reminds me a little of the fact that Boyfriend will be gone for Valentine’s Day (not that it’s such a big day here in Norway anyway). But I’ll see him again in two weeks, so with some of those lovely La Couturier-posts I shall be able to survive ’till then! Thanks for being such a darling ♥

thank you for sharing that word with us! like you said, it is beautiful. i think i love that feeling. the feeling of being on the brink of doing something that you want to do with someone else. i’ve never really had that moment too much. but i think i’ve experience something close to it. just staring at someone and trying to figure out what they’re thinking and if it corresponds with what i’m thinking.

i will be updating as soon as fashion week starts. i’ll be SO busy. with school, life, work, family….and FASHION WEEK. gahhh. you’ll see so many of my collages you’ll want to gag!

  12. 10 February 2009 9:14 pm

What an incredible word—I have definitely felt that! It totally captures the bittersweet longing that you feel before you give in to desire!

As for love—it’s a tough one, isn’t it? But you’ve put some beautiful thoughts down here. Thank you!

  13. 10 February 2009 9:24 pm

I think that people always throw around the word “Love” and suddenly it’s true meaning
becomes questionable or philosophical. So your post really proves a point.

That word, is astounding. And its description, powerful. ♥

I’ve not commented on your other posts as of late, esp. the one about the print magazine! I will soon!

And well, love is in the air really. Sometimes we breathe it in, sometimes we don’t. But it’s there. ♥

    Ah…love…

“Love is patient, love is kind.
    It does not envy.
    Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
    But rejoices in the truth.
It always protects, trusts, hopes, and preserves.
    There is nothing love cannot face;
There is no limit to its faith, hope, and endurance.
In a word, there are three things that last forever:
    Faith, hope, and love;
But the greatest of them all is love. “

first, this word looks so strange but the meaning is awsome! wuhh yes your right love is in the air. everywere are hearts for example evry window is full of it! but I dont feel like “love”. I agree with your meaning for love to your friends and family but my love for a man is still away. I met one Boy in my live where I could said “I love you”. But this Boy is out of my view but never out of my mind! And now I fucking not in peace with love! but anyway love is in the air and maybe one day we all will meet our LOVE! btw love your blog and visit it to few last time! will change it honey

    xoxo k.

You write about the most amazing things always, I absolutely love your thoughts about love, the strongest feeling in the universe.

Personally I think I’ve loved but of course I can’t be sure. I just remember the heart racing like crazy and the worst pain I’ve ever felt when… well everything went down the drain before anything actually started. But as long as a person is able to love at all, one should be happy, I guess:D

    Hugs & Kisses

  39. 11 February 2009 2:14 pm

lovely post. love is about romance, sharing, tenderness, common values, and lastly, just because. love is simple but definitely not easy.

  40. 11 February 2009 2:49 pm

    oh this was beautiful 🙂
i do agree that i feel love, but i dont know it. i dont think i’ve ever been ‘in love’, but the prospect kind of scares me!
    thankyou for the tag lovely.

I love that word, the definition is beautiful. Also there are not enough words for this kind of thing.

Such a lovely photo as well, her pose says a lot.

I think true love has those moments but a lot of the value comes from having those moments despite all the hard parts of relationships.

  45. 11 February 2009 5:43 pm

Girl I have a lump in my throat… What you wrote is so beautiful.

But… Let me tell you that real love also means being willing to fight for what you have when times get tough, and knowing that you’re going to have to give up little peices of your life to make what you have work…

Fortunately, it’s all those amazing things you said too. I’m just bitter because I have to love long distance.

    xx

  46. 11 February 2009 7:23 pm

i think it’s difficult to ever really pinpoint what “love” really is. there are really only so many words lol

    what a succint definition indeed

  47. 11 February 2009 7:39 pm

What a post. It’s so sweet, so thought provoking, and that word is astounding. I think that, when Valentine’s Day comes around, many people simply think of romantic love and not the love for all of the people in their lives. Simply put, I agree with everything you’ve said here.

  53. 11 February 2009 11:33 pm

That picture is so charming. I’ve never felt love like in the movies either…one day, one day…

  54. 12 February 2009 12:32 am

oh i love love love that word! so perfect. thank you so much for sharing it. and thank you for being so open about your experiences with love. i know what you mean… love is so strange. what we’re told often seems different from what’s true. i have been in love twice, the fireworks, think you will marry him kind of love. and it was wonderful but it wasn’t like the movies…. so i don’t know.

beautiful photo… exudes a lot of emotions and feelings words can’t! i can say i feel the same way as you do regarding love… and isn’t it the worst when someone is always waiting for someone else to initiate?

  59. 12 February 2009 11:58 am

This is such a beautiful LC. It parallels well my VERY brief post on what I think ‘beautiful’ is. I think i’d give it the same definition. Love being that deap heavy sigh in the pit of your stomach, the one that causes as much pain as it does happiness and that feeling you can’t really understand and describe. THAT is what love is, the beauty in not being able to fully understand that deep feeling in your heart.

I’m going to have to bookmark this page lol and perhaps print it and plaster your words on my wall. You wouldn’t mind if i do would you?

    Much love,

    Eeli xx
