how to wear | aqua riding boots

26 December 2008

I woke up this morning, following my daily routine (I think I can skip through the whole brushing my teeth process): brewing a cup of tea, eating a banana, checking my e-mail. Upon scanning my inbox, I saw a rather urgent email, titled H E L P ! Of course I opened it, to read this:

dont know where to start with these boots. What do I wear with them. Could you help me with an outfit .. PLEASE?!?!?!?! (-her-)

I present you with the boots behind the urgency. Drumroll please…

shoes

First my darling (sorry I don’t know your name!), take a deep breath. Of course I will help you to the best of my abilities with what to wear with these boots! We all have these moments where we buy a wonderful statement piece, bring it home triumphantly, and cannot hold in the excitement to wear them. Come time to actually wear it, we don’t know what to wear with it!

Second, I love these boots. The shape is fantastic; the little wedge perfect, the material giving just enough shine, and the straps adding the right amount of detail. I applaud you for choosing such a unique colored boot – not many would have been brave enough to! Since this boot is not your ordinary black-brown-what have you colored boot, it’s best to make this shoe your statement piece.

Casual: First try by keeping your outfit simple – tee, jeans, bag. It’s the easiest way to not overwhelm yourself and show off those great new boots! Tuck a pair of medium or dark wash skinny/fitted jeans into the boot. The first outfit below with the white tee-shirt instantly gives the outfit a bohemian vibe, with the help of a brown leather belt, aviators, and a fringe bag. Any brown bag would work well. And if you’re feeling brave enough, add a hippie inspired headband for a true boho look! The second outfit, pictured with the black tee gives the entire ensemble a different vibe; a bit more sophisticated, with a fun touch.

Accessorize: This is the perfect time to go shopping for some new accessories; costume jewelry comes in hand! When wearing a statement piece in a bold or unusual color, accent it with jewelry of the same color. For example, turquoise rings or a necklace would finish off the entire look, bringing together the entire palette. Piling on colorful bangles from affordable stores like Forever 21 would be great addition the the outfit. With this particular color, I’m envisioning either a Givenchy-inspired look with layers of gold chains over a plain top – gold contrasts and highlights the teal. A pop of this aqua-teal color would bring fluidity to the look, tying the boots into the ensemble as a whole.

Dressing Up: These boots are a bit casual on their own, but nonetheless, they can be dressed up for a more formal occasion (or if you choose to, just because). This is when the versatile little black dress comes in handy. There are so many different shapes and styles out there to choose from; and if you like a myriad of options, then, once again, Forever 21 is your best friend! The tee-shirt dress is always a super fun alternative to a regular dress; its cheeky, a bit playful; and would look perfect paired with those boots! Cinch your waist with a skinny belt; I think the look is best achieved with the longer ones where it wraps around twice. For regular dresses, I suggest sticking with jersey fabrics; they are the easiest to work with, and give the LBD a more casual feel. Look for dresses with bubble hems or a looser fit around the waist; not only does it work well for any body shape and type, but it also contrasts the leg-hugging boot! Sweater dresses would be quite adorable as well. The options:

So, don’t fret my dear! I hope this helps the little rut you’re in; if you’re looking for a more specific outfit, feel free to ask anytime!

bisous,

La C.

oh my gosh, such a fun post! i am for sure going to email you the next time i buy something amazing and then have no idea how to fit it into my wardrobe. which is something i do quite often, actually. wonderful, adorable suggestions! i also think the boots would look great with colored tights (say in a rosey or plum hue) and a slightly funky grey or brown dress. but i always go for color.
